For every wardrobe to function properly, one must invest in what I call "The Basic Ten". A functioning wardrobe will include the following BASIC articles of clothing, or staples (in no particular order) - Take One:
1) A Cami
2) Shapewear
3) Pants/Slacks
4) Heels
5) Good fitting pair of Jeans (straight leg, boot cut, skinny)
Trust and believe if you have these ten Basic items in your closet, then you will be able to achieve the fashion etiquette, or appropriateness, for any occasion and for any season.
Where can I find The Basic Ten?
1) The Cami:
"Lane Bryant" offers camis for reasonable prices. These camis are an excellent staple and can be worn through many seasons. You can shop Lane Bryant online at http://www.lanebryant.com/, or visit the store. Best of all the camis come in all colors!
2) Shapewear:
"Barely There" offers shapewear for the plus size woman. Shapewear will provide a smooth silhouette in any outfit whether you are wearing pants or a dress. I have had some trouble finding Barely There in a store lately, but you may purchase the Shapewear online by visiting: http://www.barelythere.com/.
3) Pants:
I am going to commend "Lane Bryant" for creating the Right Fit Houston Pant. If you want to have a classic look, go for the Right Fit Houston Pant. They can be paired with any top to give you that extra boost of class. Along with the boost of class concept, INC International Concepts offers great pants. Go to any Macy's, Bloomingdales, or Nordstrom to find this brand. I have found that INC International Concepts pants are not very cheap in price however they will last for a very long time. What I mean to say is that the above staples must remain in your closet, so it is worth spending more money for staples.
4) Heels:
Heels are good to have for dressing up and dressing down, in my opinion. Kitten heels, high heel stilettos, or wedges can make an outfit complete.
5) Good Fitting Pair of Jeans:
Whether you are petite, misses, or plus, a good fitting pair of jeans is a must. Now ladies, please seek to find a pair of jeans that are not too short, do not sag in the booty, and do not gather in the crouch. What every woman needs at least one good fitting jeans that can crossover into different looks - dress up and dress down. Finding the perfect pair of jeans is not rocket science, just keep your eyes open. I recommend that you consider the following brands: Gloria Vanderbilt, Michael Kors, Lane Bryant Right Fit, Calvin Klein, and INC International Concepts. If you are looking to save a few bucks, try Target jeans. They are so cool!
